Alright! I wanted to tell you all about my new video guitar lesson on HOMESPUN TAPES. The Country Blues Guitar of Catfish Keith is a personal guitar lesson and workshop on how to play seven of my favorite songs.
First, I play and sing the tune, then go slower, breaking it down lick-by-lick. Lots of my guitar techniques are explained in full detail, including whole choruses of "harp" or "artificial" harmonics, big ol' string bends and vibrato, "pinch" or "skank" harmonics, right-hand thumb damping and syncopation, deep blues bottleneck style and more.
The 85-minute tape starts on the little wood guitar, with Eagle Bird (Key of E), Mr. Catfish's Advice (A), Police & a Sergeant and Knockin' Myself Out (C), and Brownskin Gal (Drop D), inspired by Bahamian genius Joseph Spence. Then on the Steel-bodied National for two bottleneck slide style pieces in Open C Tuning: Bye and Bye, I'm Going to See the King and Jitterbug Swing.
Homespun Tapes visionary Happy Traum directed and produced the session and did a
teriffic job. Penny and I (and our dog, Freckles) drove to Longmont (near Boulder),
Colorado in late January and had a great time. Happy is a true pro and he directed the
three-camera shoot like clockwork. The video features excellent left and right hand shots
and a music and tab booklet of all the tunes make it easy to learn. I hope you enjoy!!
COMING SOON...
NEW CATFISH GUITAR CD ON SOLID AIR RECORDS!
I just finished recording a whole album of guitar instrumentals for James Jensen's Solid
Air Records due out this fall. This CD has tunes that span over 25 years of playing (I
never learned to do too much else), and is full of finger-tangling jazzy rags, deep blues,
gospel and down-island pieces on the little acoustic guitar and slide style on the
National Baritone Tricone steel-bodied guitar.
Acoustic Music Resource will soon have all of my earlier CD releases available as well.
Please do come and visit our extensive website (including a free bottleneck guitar lesson)
